Hi,

I downloaded Pinegrow 8.6 and am trying to start it, but a window opens briefly and then closes again.

I went through the crash log you posted, that nw_custom_bindings.cc:305 / libnw.so trace points to Pinegrow’s NW.js runtime failing very early during startup, before the UI even loads. It doesn’t look related to any project or user configuration.

Here are a few checks and safe workarounds that might help narrow it down:

• Start with a clean profile

Run from your Pinegrow folder:

./PinegrowLibrary --user-data-dir=/tmp/pg-clean

If this launches, your previous profile under ~/.config/Pinegrow might be corrupted. You can then rename it:

mv ~/.config/Pinegrow ~/.config/Pinegrow.bak

• Disable GPU acceleration

This sometimes helps on Intel Iris Xe / Mesa setups:

./PinegrowLibrary --disable-gpu --use-gl=swiftshader

or

LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 ./PinegrowLibrary

• If you’re on Wayland, try forcing X11 mode:

./PinegrowLibrary --ozone-platform=x11

• Confirm dependencies

Just to be safe, check that these are installed:

libnss3 libxss1 libasound2 libxkbcommon0 libgbm1 atk1.0

These steps won’t fix every case, but they’re useful to identify where the crash happens, whether it’s GPU, profile, or display environment.

Hopefully this helps others running Pinegrow 8.6 on Mint/Ubuntu 24.04 test under consistent conditions :crossed_fingers: :four_leaf_clover: :magnet:

I’m not very confident because this kind of error is hard to diagnose without a complete debug approach.

Hi @Synderryn

Just adding a few non-destructive tests that might help.

This crash (nw_custom_bindings.cc:305 Check failed: !cache->rejected) has now shown up on several Linux distros, so it doesn’t look like a user-side issue.

You can safely try launching Pinegrow 8.6 with one of these commands:

./PinegrowLibrary --disable-gpu --use-gl=swiftshader

or

LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 ./PinegrowLibrary

If you’re on Wayland:

./PinegrowLibrary --ozone-platform=x11

These just force software rendering and don’t touch your system or project files.

Beyond that, it’s hard to suggest more — the key piece missing is which NW.js version Pinegrow 8.6 actually embeds, and that’s something only the dev team can confirm @matjaz .

@NoProblemForMe @Synderryn we fixed an issue with the Linux installation package for Pinegrow 8.6. Please download and install it again and let me know if it works ok now.

@Blep thanks for the instructions. Pinegrow 8.6 uses NWJS 0.101.2 SDK edition.
