I’m using Polylang to translate my content. The plugin adds it’s own menu locations when activated, like so: Primary Menu English, Primary Menu German etc.
How to make sure Pinegrow recognizes the newly created menu locations when using Nav Menu smart action?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’m not familiar with polylang. I guess the question is what is going on behind the scenes? Is it just filtering the content and changing words, or changing the entire HTML structure? What happens when you try it out?

Just assign each menu to its language specific location. This must be done after activating your Theme and redone when you change to another theme. For Example I have in Pinegrow the “Menu Smart” Action with Location set to ‘primary’ and then in customizer added the language related menus to the primary location:
