Upgrading Pinegrow on Fedora Linux - part 3 (Work-around)

Dear all,

Pinegrow Web Editor - 7.93 was removed from Fedora Software (flatpack installer). Since then you can only download the latest version in a ZIP file from the Pinegrow website as mentioned in my previous posts. But then you’re on your own.

Work-around that so far seems to work for me:

  1. Unpack the ZIP file (double-click).
  2. Create an App folder in your Home folder using the File manager.
  3. Cut and paste PinegrowLinux(latest version no) inside this App folder.
  4. Right-click the file PinegrowLibrary and select Properties.
  5. Activate the option Run as application at the bottom and close this window.
  6. Right-click PinegrowLibrary again and select Run.

From now on you have to run this file every time you want to work with Pinegrow. But there is only a generic app icon at the Dash for Pinegrow and you cannot attach the app perminantly to the Dash as well.

What will not work is the Terminal commands like “/home/[username]/Apps/PinegrowLinux64.8.4/PinegrowLibrary” or “/home/[username]/Apps/PinegrowLinux64.8.4/PinegrowLibrary --disable-gpu --disable-software-rasterizer”. They will result in lots of errors and when Pinegrow appears to be “running” it crashes when closing the Terminal.

My request: I do sincerely hope someone will see to it that Pinegrow will be added again to the Fedora Sotware (flatpack installer).

Hi @theodekreijger

You can create an icon on the Linux desktop or in the dock to automate the launch. I’m on Debian and it works without any problems, I think it does on Fedora too. There are many tutorials online for this if you need. Hope that helps.

Hi @Blep,

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to create the icon (permanently) on the dash with the right image as well. See Upgrading Pinegrow on Fedora Linux - part 4 [Fixed]. But I stil prefer a ready made installion using the Fedora Software (flatpack) installer. So my request still stands.

By default Fedora does not allow desktop (shortcut) icons when it’s installed out-of-the-box. So I skipped trying to fix that. The current solution is much nicer, so I will not try and find some extention for that purpose.
