WordPress Development still a thing

Hey Pg, while the last general update to Pinegrow was about 4 months ago, the last WordPress-related update goes all the way back to December 2024! — when the Tailwind WordPress Starter Project was released. Since then, it’s been pretty much radio silence on anything WP-specific.

it’d be great to know if the wp tools are still being actively developed, or what the plans are — even a rough idea of a roadmap or intention would help. Otherwise, it starts to feel like maybe things have settled into a “well, it is what it is” stage… you know, the whole “Block themes make this irrelevant, block themes this and that…” cha-cha-cha song. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the direction you decide to take. It’s totally legit for you to focus on what feels right. But at the same time — it’s also legit from us to want to know.

Gracias :folded_hands:

Hi @red-rosefields!

WordPress development with Pinegrow is very much alive. With the update in December 2024 Pinegrow fully supports creating block based themes, which are now our recommended approach for building custom yet versatile WP themes:

  • HTML templates define the barebones structure
  • Blocks are then used to construct the content and details

Site editor in WP is used to create individual templates and populate them with blocks.

At the moment, there is not much to add to that. Pinegrow’s WP builder has been actively developed since 2015 and is a mature stable product. Therefore, at this stage, it does not require that much active development. That is not a sign that the product has been abandoned.

If any features are missing, please let us know and we will consider implementing them.

A general comment: Software world is filled with development & changes for the sake of development. It would actually be beneficial if the core WordPress development would also slow down a bit - a lot of recent problems and WP community dissatisfaction with the direction of WP stem from this. Software developers - myself included - are addicted to changing things

All the best,
Matjaz

Thanks, Matjaz — appreciate the thoughtful reply.

Totally understand the idea of a mature product not needing constant updates for the sake of change. Stability is a hugeasset, especially in the WP world.

That said, even a general sense of future direction would go a long way in helping users know what to expect.
