Customiser Select & Load Page not working

I set up a customiser section and field as per the instructions. (see images)

However, when I select and load a page using the customiser in my theme (localhost), the content does not appear. Nothing changes in the source either.

What could I be doing wrongly?

I have the same problem in the Tutorial “Episode 7 How to create main loop of your index page”
